Well the numbers are out for carbon emissions from 1990 to 1996. You may recall that under the Kyoto protocol we are supposed to lower our emissions to a little below 1990 level by 2010. How are we doing? Not very well.
According to the secretariat's figures New Zealand emissions rose 25.7 per cent in the period.
Only Turkey, Spain, Portugal, Australia and Greece performed more poorly, but 34 nations did better than New Zealand.
