Fairy Lights for Earth Hour

Dscf2311

Here are my fairy lights. What do you think? They are happy smiles from the Earth. The Earth is fine.

But this is spooky. About 8:45 some neighbours rang the doorbell and asked why we had fairy lights up. They were just 'interested' and not accusing in any way. Just that their 13 year old son was confused, didn't we think the Earth was stuffed?

It was the strangest most spooky experience. It was like getting a visit from a local priest who has noticed you have not been to church lately. Slightly uncomfortable, a bit light-hearted, lots of 'we are just interested but have you read this book...it's called blah blah and it says that...'.

The son was genuinely confused (presumably after 6 years of environmental indoctrination). It didn't feel right to be too honest with him (a bit like feeding pork to Muslim perhaps). I just said that I am a terrible optimist.

Honestly if environmentalism is not a religion then I don't know what is.
